The list

Nine things this site will not do.

Most of what makes online shopping unpleasant is deliberate. Each of these is a decision someone makes because it works. Here is what we have decided against, and what it costs us.

No manufactured urgency

No countdown that resets when you reload. No “4 people are viewing this”. No “only 2 left” unless the warehouse actually says two, in which case it says two. Scarcity theatre works, which is exactly why it is on this list rather than on the results page.

No teaser prices

The price on a result is the seller’s own listed price, as we read it when the index was built, and every page says when that was. We add nothing to it and take no payment, so there is no checkout of ours for it to double at. The seller’s page is always the authority on what you will pay.

No catalogue to wander through

No departments, no category tree, no “trending now” grid, no front page of things somebody wants to move. Everything in the catalogue is reachable and none of it is browsable.

That is a real trade. If you do not know what you want, this site is the wrong tool and will feel like one. It is built for the other case, which is most cases.

No ignoring your budget

“Under $30” means nothing over $30 is shown. Not shown lower down, not shown with a badge — not shown. Every constraint you can measure is a gate, met or missed, and the price ceiling is the plainest of them, because a budget is not a preference and a filter that still shows you the expensive thing is not a filter.

No silent substitution

When nothing matches properly, the search widens and tells you it has widened. It does not quietly return the nearest adjacent thing and let you assume it answered the question. A labelled second pass is slightly less impressive and considerably more useful.

No numbers we have not measured

Every figure on this site comes from a coverage run against the live catalogue or is a property of the software itself. There is no customers-served counter, no orders-shipped ticker and no wall of logos.

Where we have not measured something — real delivery times being the big one — the page says so rather than estimating. Every figure in the index, and the method behind it, is on what we measure.

No reviews we cannot vouch for

There are no star ratings here. Review data on a fulfilment catalogue of this kind is unverifiable, frequently synthetic, and attached to a listing rather than to a product. Showing it would make the results look more trustworthy while making them less so. If real review data arrives that we can stand behind, it will appear with its source attached.

No friction on the way out

There is no account to close. What you save lives in your own browser, and clearing it is one button in the app’s settings. When Plus opens, cancelling will take one click rather than an email to a retention address. There is no interstitial asking whether you are sure you want to miss out.

What this costs

Items one, two, four and eight each reduce conversion, and we are not going to claim the honest version performs better. It performs worse. Sponsored placement in particular is money we are choosing not to take.

If you catch this site breaking one of these, that is a bug and it is worth telling us about. The sibling site holds itself to a matching list — design principles on vesim.co.

The rest is a sentence

Nothing up our sleeve. Just the search.

Describe it. We’ll show every price, which one fits, and tell you when nothing does.
